How Your Donation Helps

Suicide Prevention Strategies:

  1. Legislation -There are currently 3 bills in Congress/Senate that are bipartisan and dealing with the suicide prevention strategies are proven - such a being recipients of the PURPLE HEART, and being able to record blast injuries better as means of better deployment resources when military members transfer to the civilian world.
  2. 2Legislation to require a PLAN for health care, education, employment BEFORE a military member is discharged to the civilian world, ie, a VA APPOINTMENT and community integration appointment established prior to discharge - as Secretary BOB McDonald requested when he was VA Secretary
  3. HANDS ON SUICIDE PREVENTION - ie, from call center to counselor who immediately takes over the veterans's crisis - HANDS ON not hands free -  More paid and trained call center counselors to handle the uptick in brain health crises.
  4. Development of LOSS TEAMS, ie, when a veteran dies by suicide, the LOSS TEAM approach established by Dr. Frank Campbell, is enacted to bring battle buddies and families members together - with follow up for a year -to prevent the "cluster suicide effect".  Better counseling for veterans families, especially the children is also required as noted by the research of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
  5. Immediate strategies for BRAIN HEALTH established at VA visit. VA appointment to be scheduled PRIOR to discharge from the military and to be administered within 2 weeks of discharge - To combine VA resources with Community resources for our veterans and their families. These includes zoom and community classes with Transcendental Meditation, Mindfulness, Yoga, Pilates, Comedy Performance, Journaling, and ART therapy.
  6. To improve career choices for veterans by partnering with Global solutions for the planet such as Sustainable Farming, Freshwater initiatives, Global Green.
  7. To provide technical training for veterans after discharge from the military in accordance with the scope of knowledge already demonstrated by MOS- Military Occupational specialty.

SEND the LIGHT - RECHARGE a life

SEND THE LIGHT

In Alaska, the winters mean shorter days, with longer nights which change brain chemicals and may lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD has similar symptoms to depression. That’s where SAD lights come in - Light Therapy is effective in decreasing depression and increasing motivation.
