Our Leadership

Cpl. Marcus Chischilly

 

Marcus Chischilly joined the Marines in 2005 at the age of 18 and served for eleven

years. He completed combat deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan as a part of

Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During the first four years of

his enlistment, he deployed three times to Iraq while serving in 1st Battalion 7th Marines,

Company C., also known as “Suicide Charley,” is in Twenty-nine Palms, CA. In

2009, with dedication and perseverance, he re-enlisted and was assigned to 3rd Battalion 5th Marines Company K., also known as the Darkhorse Battalion. After arriving at Camp Pendleton, he would be promoted to Corporal and deployed to Seoul, South Korea, for Joint Operational Training. After returning, he was then deployed for combat a fifth time in 2010 to Sangin Valley and Khajaki located in Afghanistan. On the morning of Oct 9th 2010, during a firefight with enemy forces, he stepped on an improvised explosive device. He immediately lost his left leg above the knee and was medevac’d back to the States. His journey to recovery began with Wounded Warrior Battalion West, located at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. After two long years of successful recovery, he was granted a return to active duty and was assigned to 3rd Marine Airwing VMFAT-101

serving as a Flight Equipment Technician. He then successfully retired as a Sergeant of

Marines in June of 2016. After retirement, Marcus would spend 4 years working with the

San Diego Zoo serves various roles in supporting wildlife conservation. He then partnered

with Global Conservation Force, where we would serve as in instructors training local

rangers on anti-poaching operations in South Africa. In 2020 Marcus obtained his degree

in Business Management and now works in the telecommunication industry assisting The

Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program. Marcus and his wife Antania currently live in

San Diego, California raising their six children. Both him and his wife are proud

members of the Navajo Nation.
